The Dalai Lama about people who can have the strongest influence on others: what is their secret?

  • 11.04.2019

Dalai Lama XIV believes that a person with the following six qualities is able to exert the strongest influence on others. It is important to know these qualities in order to be able to develop them in yourself, and then constantly improve.

We list them.

Quality 1. Coolness

Composure is a very important mental factor, which means peace of mind. This trait could also be called emotional equilibrium. A cold-blooded person is sympathetic, calm, capable of an unbiased assessment of what is happening. Composure is often associated with a lack of dependence on passionate desires and irresistible aspirations. It is possible that this quality does not quite correspond to the dynamic nature of the business, but the leader to whom it is intrinsic inspires self-confidence — and this is the most important aspect of leadership.

Quality 2. Generosity

The effective work of senior management is of great importance for the success of the company, but real results can only be obtained through the joint efforts of all its employees. A leader who seeks to account for his merits and success, destroys the motivation of other people. A good leader does not skimp on praise in case they are relevant.

Quality 3. Ethical discipline

The best way to manage your company is first and foremost to manage yourself. Learning self-discipline is not an easy task. The Dalai Lama calls ethical discipline "mind taming". Unruly mind is like an elephant: if you let it get out of control, it will destroy everything around. The main task is to curb negative motives and emotions. Before you take something, you need to get rid of negative thoughts in order to be able to react freely to what is happening.

Quality 4. Patience

Patience that you need to cultivate in yourself is the only way to be prepared for provocative circumstances, such as hostility, criticism or disappointment. In the case of anger, patience means not the ability to suppress it, but the ability to remain calm in a situation where this feeling can take hold of you.

Quality 5. Passion

The level of our dedication depends on the importance of the goals we strive to achieve and on our motivation to do so. The phrase “enthusiasm is infectious” is familiar to all of us - it means that a person has huge reserves of energy, which is released under the influence of enthusiasm. The ability to generate such enthusiasm is one of the most important characteristics of a leader.

Quality 6. Focus

By concentration, the Dalai Lama means a person’s ability to focus his mental energy on a single problem. As a rule, people cannot concentrate, and their attention switches from one object to another. They spend a lot of time remembering the past, worrying about the future and thinking about relationships with colleagues or family members. Leaders are also not immune from this. However, people who are not able to focus their consciousness on one issue, which is necessary to improve the quality of their decisions, cannot be leaders.

Dalai Lama XIV spoke about these qualities in his book The Path of a True Leader. Buddhists believe that the Dalai Lamas are incarnations on earth of a Bodhisattva - a man who becomes a Buddha on earth for the good of all beings. Dalai Lamas are born here to serve the people. Each subsequent Dalai Lama is the embodiment of the previous one.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama XIV is one of the world's most famous leaders. His name is on a par with such names as Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela - they all achieved their goals without resorting to violence. Dalai Lama XIV for many years led the unrecognized government in exile. He is a diplomat, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Many universities in the world awarded the Dalai Lama an honorary doctorate in recognition of his brilliant works promoting a peaceful solution to international conflicts. He is an example of how to maintain calm in a critical situation. And that is why people all over the world listen to the words of this Buddhist monk.

During his life in the West, the Dalai Lama XIV initiated many international conferences and round tables on science, politics, and business. The Dalai Lama believes that "the leaders of religious movements, with their ability to look to the future, must take part in the discussion of global business and the economy." In the book The Path of the True Leader, he writes:

“At first glance, there is a big difference between business and Buddhism, but their common denominator is the meaning that a person’s happiness can have for them. A company that does not have happy employees, customers and shareholders is ultimately doomed. ”

The Dalai Lama often says:"I am just a simple Buddhist monk, no more, no less." He leads a life like this: wakes up at 4 am, meditates, reads prayers and maintains a tight schedule of meetings, audiences and ceremonies. Every day he ends with a prayer.

“I lost my freedom when I was 16 years old, and became an exile in 24 years. I have had a lot of difficulties in my life. Nevertheless, I have kept my presence of mind, ”says Dalai Lama XIV.
